Police appeal for help to trace youths responsible for Heswall assaults

By Mark Gorton at

Detectives are appealing for help in tracing a gang of youths believed to be responsible for a burglary and three assaults in Heswall on the evening of Saturday 2nd June.

At around 7.30pm a gang of around twenty youths, all believed to be of school age, forced their way into a house in Heythrop Drive. The youths began damaging property, stealing alcohol and threatening the children present.

A 14 year-old girl who lives at the address was punched and one offender spat in her face. As the gang made off from the house they then assaulted a 17 year-old boy in the street.

At around 10.30pm that evening the gang are believed to have caused further disorder and assaulted an 18 year-old man by hitting him in the face with the branch of a tree close to the Tesco store on Telegraph Road.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

Detective Constable Jon Head said: “This was not simply a case of a group of youths messing around or having a laugh. This was a nasty attack on children enjoying a summer’s evening at home.

“This group forced their way into a house and threatened a number of children before causing damage and assaulting a young girl. They then continued with their aggressive behaviour assaulting two other teenagers that same evening.

“We believe that although a large group of youths were present the majority of them would be appalled at the behaviour of the minority and I would urge them to come forward to speak to us. I would also ask parents to come forward if they believe their children were involved.

“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and Merseyside Police will do everything in its power to find those responsible.”

Anyone who has any information or can assist the investigation is asked to contact DC Jon Head on 0151 777 2246 or contact the Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
